Gurugram: After the state government renamed India’s corporate hub and rising metropolitan city Gurgaon to
‘Gurugram’, residents of the city have come up with mixed reactions.

While justifying Haryana government’s stand, a spokesman said, “Since long, the people of the area had been demanding that Gurgaon be renamed as Gurugram."

"Haryana is a historic land of the Bhagwat Gita and Gurgaon had been a centre of learning. It had been known as Gurgaon since the times of Guru Dronacharya. Gurgaon was a great center of education where the princes used to be provided education.

Here are 5 reasons why the name has been changed:


Residents of the city demanded that Gurgaon be renamed as Gurugram: Haryana Government
Representations received at several fora that it would be appropriate to rename Gurgaon as Gurugram, according to an official spokesman of the government.
Haryana is a historic land of the Bhagwat Gita and Gurgaon had been a centre of learning.
It had been known as Gurgaon since the times of Guru Dronacharya. Gurgaon was a great center of education where the princes used to be provided education.
The village was given as gurudakshina to him by his students - the Pandavas - and hence it came to be known as Guru-gram, which in course of time is said to have got distorted to Gurgaon.
